RESIDENTS VISIT MARMALADE LANE

TOWN is delighted to announce the launch of Marmalade Lane, the new name for the K1 Cohousing development in Cambridge.

Having previously been known by the name K1 after the parcel of building land in Orchard Park that it will be located on, the scheme will from here on take its name from the new street that will run through the heart of this custom build development.

Marmalade Lane was put forward by the members of Cambridge Cohousing who will be the future residents of the development. As well as a reference to historic local industry – Chivers used to produce preserves at nearby Histon, and much of what is now Orchard Park was used for fruit-growing – it has a familiar, homely feel that conveys a sense of the neighbourliness cohousing is about.

The rebranding as Marmalade Lane coincides with a ground-breaking ceremony marking the start of the year-long construction programme. The event was attended by the developers, builder, local community representatives and several of the families who will eventually live there. The first spade was put in the ground by some of the children who will be living in Marmalade Lane when the scheme is completed – a first not only for TOWN but also for our highly-experienced local contractor Coulson. Meanwhile, other future residents were able to stand in their plots to get a real idea of what living at Marmalade Lane will be like.

A more detailed press release about the event can be found here and information about property availability will be on the new Marmalade Lane website.

This website will be regularly updated as the build progresses.
